Pretend Play for Future Heroes
Thanks to a fundraising initiative by supporter Trish Chipman for Mandela Day, we were able to purchase 2 pretend play stations for children to use during free time.
Both a two sink kitchen and Workmans tool bench were specially designed and built for our children to play with. We would love to fill both these resources with safe accessories for the children to play with. If you have any old pots, pans, wooden utensils, wooden toy tools, old pieces of wood… then please do get in touch! email hub@learninghub.org.za
Pretend play is crucial for children from disadvantaged areas in South Africa as it fosters cognitive development by enhancing creativity and critical thinking. It promotes social skills through cooperation and communication, while also aiding emotional regulation by providing a safe space to express feelings.
This type of play allows children to explore their identities and build resilience by navigating various scenarios, which equips them to handle real-life challenges. Additionally, pretend play enhances literacy and numeracy skills and fosters a sense of community and belonging, essential for emotional support in their environments.
We are so grateful for this gift as it serves as a powerful tool for holistic development, helping these children build essential life skills. Thank you!
