A life changing style of learning…

If children have 5-6 hours free all afternoon and low quality education settings in the morning, how great is the number of opportunities for history changing learning to be accomplished!

Learning is accomplished without sitting down as often as possible for all subjects at the Learning Hub.

At the learning hub, children arrive from 1pm straight from School. All schools are within walking distance to the hub, and the children are safe as they walk with their friends. Once they safely arrive, they are greeted by the staff and have the opportunity to share the highlights and struggles of their day. The staff want the hub to feel like the child is “coming home”, even if for just 5 hours a day.

After some time to blow off steam from a hard day at the desk, our children are then assisted with their homework, set by their schools but using the learning resources we have to offer them as learning aids.

At every given moment the staff of the learning hub encourage the children to take their studies on their feet, in the garden, or creatively through arts. We like to call our style of learning at IYLH “learning through discovery”.

When most of our formal learning in South African schools happens in text books, in over crowded schools, how incredible is it that children are able to “discover” facts, methods, history, nature and life lessons for themselves in a safe environment.

The staff know that a child is more likely to become president one day if they began asking “why” at age 6, and had a trusted person in their life to explain our history to them at age 7, and then begin forming speeches to their peers at age 8.

Together using our learning through discovery curriculum we will grow children who are secure in who they are, confident in what they have to offer society, passionate about the world around them and supported intellectually to get the best grades in their potential.

• Reading Books & Stationary (used and new!)
