The Learning Hub Celebrates their long awaited opening!
Elke Zwicker cuts the ribbon and declares classroom open with Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews and Hout Bay Councillor Roberto Quintas.
Celebrating the opening of a long awaited, state of the art after school care facility in Imizamo Yethu, The Imizamo Yethu Learning Hub seeks to to provide excellent loving care for the children of Imizamo Yethu, safety when out of school and utilising every minute for fun, learning and discovery.
The official opening ceremony took place on May 17th, and was attended by the multitude of individuals and city officials that made the construction and required paperwork possible. Special thanks was given to Elke Zwicker who has poured hours and years into this project.
Having noted the cries from parents of the community for excellent after school care throughout the year that is safe and enables students to be tutored through their homework, SEEDS trust and Kinderhilfe Kapstaad joined together to built a state of the art double story facility.
Currently open to grades 1-3, the aftercare seeks to fill 3 classrooms, before adding more capacity in the further 2 classrooms.
Aftercares are vital to all communities, since schools release children in the middle of the working day and streets are not safe for children to be home alone. Children also have homework after school that requires further help and needs to be done in the day time. South Africa needs more aftercares.
The IY Learning Hub's vision is for primary children to reach their academic potential, with a growth mindset for challenges and to be thriving emotionally, socially, spiritually and intellectually. The main methods of achieving this is through guided free play, mindfulness sessions, learning through discovery activities and consistent, fun and loving mentors to know them every afternoon. Having employed local staff with exceptional qualifications and experience, they are confident they are providing this.
The build was not without it's issues, but thanks to the Mayor, the councillor, the architects and builders, the IY Learning Hub is a beautiful sight on the side of the Hout Bay Mountain. They would like to thank everyone that advocated for the long process and the approval of the plans.
IY Learning Hub is accepting new children from Grades 1-3, and charges R450 per month. It operates throughout the year, including school holidays and feeds children daily.
They would love to collaborate with organisations and members of the Hout Bay Community on everything to do with providing a fun, loving childhood to children in the afternoons. You can also donate books, sports equipment, stationary, your time or money to the project via their website.
