Over 100 children now enrolled at the Learning Hub

Since we are a SEEDS Trust project, our mission has always been to operate in a sustainable way.

Sustainable practises for NGOs look like:

Under privileged Children play at after school in Cape Town
  • not over promising and under delivering

  • grow slowly and learn along the way

  • budget according to expected income and spend according to allocated donations!

The Learning Hub opened in May 2024 with 60 children (3 classrooms of 20 children) and 3 teachers. It was an amazing year of trying new things, learning new things and making changes where it was needed.

One change we made was to lower the cost of the aftercare. We believe that aftercare is a necessity in a life where 2 parents are needed to bring in an income to survive. Not only that but aftercare is a necessity in South Africa to advance our levels of education to world wide standards, quicker than our education department in government can adapt.

One thing we did not take into consideration was the cost of transport. Most parents pay taxis to transport their children to school. A large cost. We cannot provide that for cheaper and so we do not offer it as part of our aftercare.

To properly reflect the costs for a family using an aftercare, we dropped the co-payment from R450 per month to R350 per month. Allowing parents to put the extra R100 towards safe transport for their children both mornings and afternoons. We call it a co-payment as it is subsidised by our generous donors.

We are super excited to announce that in 2024 we set a target as a team to grow to 100 children in 2025. We have exceeded this goal and that is down to the amazing work done by our facilitator team. Thank you Aviwe, Asiphe, Simnikiwe and Nobantu for building an exciting programme for the children after school.

With parents committing to paying for a full year of fees, and a great program in place, we’d love to make the call for anyone who feels the burden to see children cared for, enriched and communities empowered every weekday of the year to partner with us financially.
